Volunteers clean Yangtze River bank in Chongqing

Jun 04,2013

Volunteers from Wanda Doubletree Resort by Hilton Hotel in Wanzhou, Chongqing Municipality launched an activity to clean the Yangtze River bank on May 31.

A group of 161 volunteers picked up lots of non-degradable trash along the bank starting from Wanzhou Assembly Hall to Wanzhou Port.

The trash they found on the bank includes beverage bottles, packaging bags and lunch boxes, which may pollute the water of Yangtze River and lead to ecological deterioration along the river.

Over the last 50 years, there has been a 73% increase in pollution levels from hundreds of cities, in the main stem of the Yangtze River, which is called by Chinese “Mother River”. The annual discharge of sewage and industrial waste in the river has reached about 25 billion tons, which is 42% of the country’s total sewage discharge, according to the World Wildlife Fund.

Wanda Group advocates sustainable development by sticking to green standards for construction and operation and encourages its staff to join in green activities such as tree planting and water cleaning. The group was picked as one of the Top 100 Chinese Green Companies this year.
